Review of the Burnie Grill: The Ultra Eco-Friendly Grill
Introduction
In the world of portable grilling, the Burnie Grill stands out as an innovative, eco-friendly option that promises convenience, flavor, and sustainability. Developed in Latvia using a centuries-old Nordic technique, this single-use, self-burning grill is crafted from 100% natural Alder Wood, offering a chemical-free and mess-free grilling experience. Here's a detailed look at the Burnie Grill and how it performed during our tests.
Eco-Friendliness and Design
One of the most appealing aspects of the Burnie Grill is its commitment to environmental sustainability. Made entirely from natural Alder Wood, Burnies contain no chemicals, ensuring that no harmful substances are released during the cooking process. The design is brilliantly simple: a portable grill that burns itself out, leaving behind minimal waste—just a small amount of ash. The only non-biodegradable element is the plastic wrapping, which is easily disposed of.
Ease of Use
Using the Burnie Grill was a straightforward and enjoyable experience. Lighting the grill was as simple as holding a lighter to it. The grill also comes with a fire starter piece that can be removed, lit, and replaced, but we found direct lighting to be just as effective. Once ignited, the Burnie Grill burns steadily and evenly, providing a reliable heat source for cooking.
Performance and Flavor
The true test of any grill is its ability to cook food well, and the Burnie Grill did not disappoint. Cooking over Alder Wood gave our steaks a pleasantly smoky aroma and a rich, umami flavor that’s hard to replicate with conventional grills. The slow-burning nature of Alder Wood ensures a consistent cooking temperature, perfect for meats, fish, and vegetables. The grill lasted long enough for us to cook a full meal, and it burned down to almost nothing, making cleanup effortless.
Versatility
We used the Burnie Grill on its dedicated stand, but it’s versatile enough to be used on any grill surface. This flexibility makes it an excellent option for various outdoor activities, including camping, tailgating, and backyard cookouts. Its compact size means it can easily fit in a backpack, making it ideal for hiking and other adventures.
Conclusion
The Burnie Grill offers a unique combination of eco-friendliness, ease of use, and excellent cooking performance. Its natural materials and design make it a responsible choice for outdoor cooking enthusiasts. The smoky flavor it imparts to food enhances the overall grilling experience, and the convenience of a self-burning, minimal-waste grill is unmatched. Whether you’re camping in the wilderness, tailgating at a big game, or just enjoying a backyard barbecue, the Burnie Grill is a fantastic addition to your outdoor gear.
Personal Thoughts
Using the Burnie Grill felt good from both an environmental and a culinary standpoint. It was a fun and easy way to cook our steaks, and the flavor was exceptional. We look forward to using the two remaining Burnies we have and trying them out on different grills. The Burnie Grill has certainly won a place in our outdoor cooking repertoire.
For anyone looking to elevate their outdoor cooking with a product that respects nature and enhances flavor, the Burnie Grill is a must-try. Light, grill, and enjoy the ease and taste of cooking with natural Alder Wood.
