BIGFOOT
Every strange story has a place. These are ours.
North Carolina sightings, local legends, original evidence and investigations—from the foothills to the coast.
Original editorial illustration of a fictional Bigfoot in the Appalachian mountains; not a documented sighting.
*BFRO’s North Carolina database when assembled in October 2026. These are unverified submissions, not 107 confirmed animals.
THE LONG READS
Start with a story.
Seven investigations—with real interviews, news archives, recordings, drawings, and the questions nobody has answered.
Beyond these investigations, the BFRO preserves hundreds of witness observations and follow-up details nationwide. Browse the original North Carolina case files by county below.

Evidence you can actually look at.
Real archival material, presented for what it is. A witness drawing is not a photograph of an animal. A photograph of a location is not proof of a sighting.
THE FIELD DIRECTORY

A good mystery deserves good evidence.
Here’s what our labels mean as we keep expanding this archive.
Eyewitness account
A person reported seeing something. Their account can be documented and compared, but is not proof of an unknown species.
Original material
A photograph, recording or drawing may preserve part of a story; we identify what it really shows and when it was made.
Independent verification
Confirmation requires evidence independently checked—not simply a witness’s confidence or a rating assigned by a private database.
Do you have a story?
We’re looking for firsthand accounts, old clippings, unedited photos or videos, audio recordings and original documents. If you remember a report from your hometown, tell Foothills Digest.
Site note: Landscape images used for design are illustrative and are not evidence of encounters. Historical drawings and photographs have their source and date explained in their linked investigations. Archival image rights remain with their rightsholders. Last editorial update: October 2026.
